Horizontal Screw Centrifugal Dehydrator

A horizontal screw centrifugal dehydrator, also known as a decanter centrifuge, is a type of industrial equipment. It utilizes a high-speed rotating drum and an internal screw conveyor to separate the solid and liquid phases of a slurry or suspension using centrifugal force. This process effectively dewaters sludge and achieves solid-liquid separation in applications such as plastic recycling and wastewater treatment. It can even be used to dry vegetables by forcefully removing moisture from the material.

Working Principle

  1. Feed: The suspension or slurry is fed into the rotating drum via a central feed pipe.

  2. Centrifugal Separation: The high-speed rotation of the drum generates strong centrifugal force, causing heavier solid particles to settle on the inner wall of the drum, forming a sediment layer.

  3. Solid Discharge: The internal screw conveyor rotates at a slightly different speed from the drum, continuously pushing these deposited solids toward the tapered end of the drum, where they are then discharged through the discharge port. 4. Liquid Discharge: The lighter liquid phase remains inside, forming a liquid ring, and overflows from the larger end of the drum, where it is discharged through a separate outlet.

Key Components and Principles

  1. High-Speed Drum: Responsible for generating strong centrifugal force to achieve separation.

  2. Screw Conveyor: Acting like a screw, it propels solids toward the discharge outlet.

  3. Differential Speed: The slight speed difference between the drum and the screw is critical to the conveyor's ability to effectively move solids.

  4. Corrosion-Resistant Materials: Typically made of stainless steel to prevent corrosion of the processed material.

Common Applications

  1. Wastewater Treatment: Used for dewatering sludge from industrial and domestic wastewater.

  2. Plastic Recycling: Drying and dehydrating various plastic materials.

  3. Food and Beverage Industry: Separating and dehydrating products such as vegetables.

  4. Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry: Used for the precise separation of solids and liquids. 5. Petrochemical and Mining: Processing of materials such as coal.
